of the russian ballet atthe da:ns festival...

Esplanade Presents da:ns festival 2007:
Stars of Russian Ballet - Ballet Gala with Prima Ballerina of the Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet,
Ulyana Lopatkina (Russia)13 October 2007, 8pm
Esplanade Theatre, Esplanade ¡V Theatres on the Bay

Russian ballet has never been more captivating and scintillating than in this star-studded production featuring the acclaimed Ulyana Lopatkina, prima ballerina of the Kirov Ballet, and a company of award-winning soloists from the Kirov Ballet and the St Petersburg State Ballet Theatre. Displaying the virtuosic command and dramatic finesse that form the essence of Russian ballet, they perform excerpts from classics such as Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet, The Nutcracker and Don Quixote, as well as from contemporary works by renowned choreographers including Nikolai Androsov, Alexei Ratmansky and Hans van Manen.

Lopatkina¡¦s ¡§diamante brilliance¡¨ and ¡§divine¡¨ portrayals have made her an international star. Said to possess a ¡§perfect ethereal figure¡¨, she fills the stage with her exquisite radiance and never fails to amaze with her technical prowess, grace and emotional depth. Her performances have won her numerous awards throughout her career, from the Golden Sofit in 1995 for her debut as Odette-Odile in Swan Lake to the People¡¦s Artist of Russia in 2006.

this would have been a great ballet to watch for someone who has never watched ballet, cos it's easy to watch!
it's bits and pieces of very familiar pieces performed by 8 very established dancers.

although somewhat fragmented,
the overall presentation of the night's program was still coherent
and watching a ballet at the esplanade's theatre has always been a very good overall experience.

all in all,
beautiful.

The ridiculously catchy single - 1973
taken off his 2nd album - All the Lost Souls
on constant repeat on my comp

he can take an apple and write a tragic love song about it
