of the end of the 5th race
6 continents, 11 countries, 72,000 miles, and the 5th amazing race is over...
i tried to trace backwards and it seems the last race (race no.4) was won by Reichen and Chip in August 2003 *gasp* it's been a year??? already?? I write a blog entry about the end of each race and like i've mentioned before, the amazing race serves as bookmarks to my life, where i am, what i am doing, each time a race is ran.
Unlike the previous 2 races, this time around, when chip and kim were running towards the finish line, the floodgates opened for me and i killed 2 trees by usin half a box of tissue, like i was tellin baby jus now, "it's like... i was runnin the race with them.. not just chip and kim, but all the rest of the teams"
Kim said sumthin which i felt was probably their best prize (not that the US$1M would hurt... i'll still take the money), she said sumthing like "now we can tell our kids that anything is possible" Imagine that, that if one day your kid tells you "oh dad, i can't do this... " u can tell him that if u put ur mind to it, u can do anything in the world.. even winning the amazing race.
yes the sights were cool, the cultures were unique, the fights were catty, the road blocks were dirty, the detours were confusing, the pitstops were emotional-wrecking when you wait to hear Phil say "XXX and XXX, you're the last team to arrive, i'm sorry to tell u you've both been eliminated from the race" But i'd reckon it's mostly about the people, the teams, those whom i ran with during the course of this race. Colin and Christy the obnoxcious bastard and the whiny bitch, the bowling moms karen and linda, the dating models who won't shave their heads at the fast forward brandon and nicole, the un-pretty twins kami and karli... i'll remember them for a long time to come...
the bad news : a void on wednesday night, nothin to look forward to the midweek.
the good news : The Amazing Race 6 is back nxt month!!! WOO HOOOOO!!!!

of the terminal
caught the movie on monday. the critics call it tom hanks best performance since Forrest Gump. Not totally accurate, but not far from the truth either, i'd think it hard for hanks to suppass his performance in Gump (which incidently, is one of my top3 movies of all time)
Director/Producer Steven Spielber says "I don't know anyone who hasnt spent longer sitting in an airport chair than on the airplane ride itself at some point. Airports have become small microcosms of society. There are places to eat, places to shop, places to meet people... " I thought that was kinda interesting, how an airport can become a man's world, he eats there, he works there (the quarters cart thing and the building thingie), he sleeps there, he falls in love there (altho it didnt work out, and i'm kinda glad it didnt, it prolli would have make the movie a lil bit too cliche).
It was a story about overcoming the odds, that when life deals u an unexpected super shit hand, u take the cards and try and make some kinda sense out of it, to hang on till things get better.
end of the day, i'd think i like tha movie cos it exemplified one of my life's philosophies: - In any situation, you could
1) make the best of it
2) bitch about it

of the closeness
"Why do birds suddenly appear
Everytime you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.
Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.
On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moondust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue... "
~Close To You

it doesnt have to be anything spectecular
or earth-shattering
but it's amazing how the world around me changes
the little things you know?
the subtle signs
everytime she is close...
