Global Underground Presents Andrew Archer (The Forth)
Electric Calm Chill Out Sessions @ Embargo
Wednesday
14th May 2003

Surely Singapore has moved on from the SARS scare, if the session at Embargo on Wednesday night was any indication to go by. Packed to capacity from as early as 10pm, contributed in part by the overspill from the Centro queue, the huge Global Underground banner encased in subliminal blue light beckoned in the crowd.

In the mid-90s, a certain Andrew Archer & Scott Dawson, got together to form ?The Forth?. Today, producers, DJ?s and re-mixers, after welcoming on board James Todd, ?The Forth? have covered a long journey within house, trance and even a touch of breakbeat throughout the past decade. Last Wednesday, Andrew Archer graced the decks at embargo, and his set was, quoted in his own words in an interview in November last year ??amazing, calm, electric, buy it out, chill, relax, lush.?

Maybe it was the midweek night, maybe it was the eve of a public holiday, or maybe it was just the music that were churned out of the decks of the almost unnoticeable console on the side of the inside of the club, the entire club was awashed with the very vibe that Andrew Archer set out to mete.

The scene was nothing like when Andrew Archer played in China, on the Great Wall to 800 clubbers in the middle of the night, but it was definitely appropriate in the context it?s set in, and more than well suited. From start to finish, the set played out like a well-rehearsed script, with little upheavals. And judging from the reaction of the crowd, that was exactly how they liked it ? calm, chill, lush. The empty glasses and bottles on the return counter of the bar slowly piled up, as the crowd reveled and took in the whole atmosphere, slaking the bar dry in the process.

Then the last of the music washed away, and the now-naked banner was stripped of the glorious blue light, and the fatigued, yet satisfied crowd, ebbed away, promising to return.

Another time, another place, another day.
